Online Therapy

What is online therapy?

Online therapy is an increasingly popular form of mental health servicing that goes by many names – video therapy, telehealth, online counselling, and more. These terms simply refer to the process of meeting for therapy through technology such as video chat, phone, or text. You can receive therapy from the comfort and convenience of your own personal space with all the same benefits of having sessions in person.

Is online therapy right for me?

  • Are you comfortable using video chat services or speaking on the phone for up to an hour?

  • Are you located anywhere within Australia?

  • Would you benefit from increased scheduling flexibility?

  • Do you have access to a private space for 50 minutes?

  • Do you prefer to save time by not having to commute to sessions?

What are the benefits of online therapy?

Online therapy can provide unique benefits compared to traditional in-person therapy. It is more accessible for people with busy schedules, childcare and elder care responsibilities, transportation challenges, and those who may have difficulty finding mental health services in their local area. Online therapy offers increased flexibility in scheduling and a sense of privacy for people who prefer not to see familiar faces in an office setting. If you have cold or flu symptoms, online therapy is recommended as an alternative to in-person therapy.

Is online therapy confidential?

Yes, online therapy has very similar confidentiality laws as in-person therapy. I use an encrypted, secure platform called Coviu. You do not need any special software to access Coviu. The online therapy room will feel similar to other video chat platforms such as Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime, but provides a higher level of security.
